About This WebsiteI have received quite a number of comments and questions about this website. I'm glad you like it, and here are some answers: Q: Do you have any advice for writers? Writing is a craft that you can learn by practice. It's about discovering your voice, and communicating your thoughts to the readers and treating them as your friends. Goto my page with writers' resources for more info and advice... Q: Do you have any advise for first time bloggers? As a matter of fact, when I started end of December 2011(this was my first blog and website) I wrote a number of posts on the subject of blogging which are anecdotal rather than technical. Important is to find a subject you know about and like talking about, and to provide original content. Your voice , i.e. the tone and manner you present your material is important too. Click here to read the posts. Q: Can I use the ideas and concepts for my blogs, or for research? Yes, if there is a link back to the blog and proper credit given to the original author and website , which is after all what a bulletin board is about. With regard to most of the research , the ideas and articles I generated on Betsycheung.com are copyrighted . Of course, you can quote if give credit to the source. I am glad you find it helpful but I would grateful it if you can do the honorable thing and help spread the word as well. Q: Are There any forums for discussing related issues? A forum has been set up at www.betsycheung.com/forum . It's new so start the discussion for subjects you like to hear other's opinion on. I am especially interested in hearing people's stories about project's they have started, or career decisions they made after reading the posts. Q: Are there similar websites you can recommend? Click here for a list of charity websites in Hong Kong. I am working on a similar list of international organisations and will keep you posted. Q: How do I subscribe to this website ? If you want to subscribe to 'Operation Pebbles', click on the RSS button of the Hong Kong blog or International blog. If you want to subscribe to Betsycheung.com, the RSS is on the homepage. Q: What software did you use for the websites ? 'Betsycheung.com' was done in 'weebly' which is a drag and drop web building software that is available on i-page, whereas 'Operation Pebbles.com' is done using CM4All, also available on iPage. The blogs are wordpress, which are simple scripts add-ons , so everything falls under one account. Q: Did you have any help with it? I build it by myself and it's my first web-site, so it took me a while to find out how, but the web-building softwares were 'drag and drop' and very user-friendly. I'm an architect and graphic design is involved in presentations we do all the time, so that helped. When I came across technical problems, iPage has a web-based helpline which is available 24/7, this has helped me a lot when there were hiccups.. It's good because I have a tendency to work on it at night-time, because it's 24/7 it speeded things up. Also, if the assistant can't resolve the issue, which happens sometimes, they would come back to you within 24 hours after investigating the problem. Q: Did you use available themes or did you design them? I used available themes, but if you have a premium package, ipage allows you access to the html of the weebly templates , so you can change the template as you like, which is what I did. For CM4All, you can't change the template, but they have options in terms of colorschemes and back ground images, embedded images etc. This is a Video showing the Weebly sofware.

I should disclose here that the link below is an ad and I receive compensation if you click. I myself found iPage when I googled 'Top 5 Webpage Hosting' and it came up as number One as well as the cheapest. I appreciate it for the reasons above, and if you know me, you would say I'm the biggest computer-klutz, so I should give iPage a little credit. So these are my answers to your website questions... |
